CleanStart was founded in 2005 as a nonprofit organization designed to accelerate the development of clean technology ventures within the Northern California region. Our mission is to empower entrepreneurs with the knowledge, capital, and connections that are critical to creating a successful new business. We do this by connecting the Northern California region’s clean tech community through CleanStart PowerUP! Promoting the region’s clean tech economy in the annual CleanStart Progress Report, on social media & news outlets and at statewide and national events. Educating Clean Tech business leaders through classes and the Entrepreneurs Showcase sponsored by Velocity Venture Capital.

Other regional resources:

The Carlsen Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Sacramento State provides skills and resources to launch ventures and to identify solutions to entrepreneurial problems, supports networking, and provides entrepreneurial training with free cubicle space and available office amenities. The Center for Entrepreneurship in the College of Business Administration (CBA) helps to develop and nurture innovative business ideas and to capitalize potential entrepreneurial opportunities, both from CSUS and local entrepreneurship communities. The Center will provide entrepreneurs with the skills and resources needed to launch a venture and to identify and cultivate solutions to entrepreneurial problems, the network structure to bring the plan to fruition, and the technical training to grow the enterprises. The main purpose of Center for Entrepreneurship would be to create a new venture incubator for its expanded stakeholder groups, such as faculty, staff, students, student organizations, alumni, employers, advisory board, local entrepreneurs, and supporters. Also, other purposes include developing entrepreneurship curriculum and programs for a broader audience, such as nascent entrepreneurs, in Sacramento regions.

The Center for Small Businesses (CSB) is one of the oldest and largest of its kind in the United States. For more than thirty-five years, the CSB has served in excess of 3,000 small businesses in the Greater Sacramento area. The CSB offers free technical management assistance in all areas of business other than taxation, law, and loan packaging, to small for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. The services are provided by juniors, seniors, and graduate students under faculty supervision. These students are assigned to work with clients of the CSB as part of their coursework in various classes offered by the College of Business Administration.

About BlueTechValley Innovation Cluster

The BlueTechValley Initiative was established in Fresno in 2011. It strategically leverages the region's resources and assets to create a fertile environment for entrepreneurs to turn vision into real world solutions.

The BlueTechValley Innovation Cluster will build on the Initiative by providing access to commercialization services that will dramatically accelerate the rate of innovation and growth of water and energy-oriented companies in the 39 counties from central to northern California that the project is covering.
